Spring at the Sanctuary Point Garden sees the arrival of the spring and summer flower seedlings.
Annual flower seedlings can be planted in just about anything, it’s not limited to pots, containers, hanging baskets and window boxes. The old wheelbarrow with the wobbly wheel that’s been fixed a hundred times is a perfect candidate for a massive show of spring and summer flowers, making a striking centre piece in your garden. What about the leaky aluminium watering can, or maybe some old work boots? There’s no limit to the imagination when adding flowers to the garden, the quirkier, the better we reckon!
Our flower seedlings are produced by the same company that supplies our premium quality vegetable seedlings, therefore our aim follows through to our flower seedlings, to strive to improve both the variety and of course it goes without saying the quality of our seedling offering. We continually push our suppliers to maintain a high quality product to ensure you get the very best seedlings for your gardens.
Our Key tips for producing the best looking flower seedlings displays are as follows:
- Planting – Flower seedlings need sunshine to make them flower, so find a really sunny spot for optimum flowering performance.
- Feeding – Flowers seedlings need a regular feed throughout the Spring and Summer with a food which is high in potassium. A soluble fertiliser used for Tomatoes and Vegetables would be a perfect choice.
- Watering – watering is essential, ensure you are watering regularly during the warmer months. If it rains, try and collect as much of the rainwater as you can so you can use it at a later date. Don’t let hanging baskets or containers dry out.
- Choosing – Go crazy, you can never have too many flowers, load them up, leaving no soil gaps for the best looking flower displays.
- Protecting – You’ll need to protect your flower seedlings from the local fauna, these include Possums, Rabbits, Bush Rats, Roos and Wallabies. You can spray with a product called Poss-Off which repels the afore mentioned flower munchers and as for snails you can use pet-safe pellets or crushed up egg shells.
- Enjoying – You’ve created your very own flower heaven, now sit back, relax and enjoy every moment of them.
