Spring Has Almost Sprung…………..
With only 3 short weeks until the first day of Spring, preparations are in full swing here at the Sanctuary Point Garden Centre and all round the garden, you will see the exciting signs of the new season ahead.
Emerging from the warming soil are Jonquils and Daffodils, these delicate and fragrant blooms are great for pots but can also offer a stunning display mass planted in drifts throughout the garden or around the base of trees. Hydrangeas are also starting to bud along their stems, if you haven’t already done so, you can prune your Hydrangeas down to the 2nd or 3rd budding node from the base of the plant. Add some rich food such as Cow Manure or a 5 in 1 Pellet to give them a boost. Also, you will see blossom buds appearing on the deciduous fruit trees, before these blossoms open up, we recommend that you spray with Copper Oxychloride or Lime Sulphur. Spraying with Copper or Lime Sulphur will help prevent bacterial issues further into the season, such as fruit drop and leaf curl.
New season Roses are flushing up beautifully with lots if fresh new growth. Some are even starting to offer up some early flower buds! As soon as your roses start to flush with new leaves, you can begin your feeding regime. We recommend a quick release fertiliser such as a pelletized manure, liquid concentrate, quick acting powder form or even a good old-fashioned bagged cow manure. Your roses will love you and reward you with big beautiful blooms and strong, healthy stems. After your initial feed, you can follow up with a regular quarterly application of a slow release pellets such as Sudden Impact for Roses to keep everything looking fresh and full.
Lavender is blooming and is looking beautiful at this time of year. Lavender comes in many shapes and sizes and some of the most gorgeous are the new dwarf and compact varieties. Here at the Sanctuary Point Garden Centre we have many compact varieties available, including the stunning Sensation White! Our compact Lavender varieties are heat and humidity tolerant, which makes it perfect for the NSW South Coast! and have a mounding habit with aromatic grey or green foliage.
