In this day and age there seems to be no escaping the use of plastic and this is especially true in the nursery industry, but here at the Sanctuary Point Garden Centre, we try very hard to avoid the use of plastics in our day to day functions.
Plastic Shopping Bags: As of 2017, we actively sought a replacement for our plastic punnet and pot bags. Today we use a fully compostable bag which is made from corn starch and is safe to add to compost heaps or worm farms.
Nespresso Pod Recycling: Sanctuary Point Garden Centre is the only pod recycling drop off in the Bay and Basin area. We collect the pods, package them up and arrange for them to be collected by Nespresso. We take all kinds of pods, not just Nespresso and pods are recycled into garden furniture, street furniture and other great products.
Cardboard: We regularly collect cardboard boxes that would ultimately be thrown away by other businesses and use these to pack purchased plants into. We also utilise any of our own cardboard packaging in the same way to save on the use of shopping bags.
Plant Pot Returns: Here at the Sanctuary Point Garden Centre, we try and recycle a lot of the pots our plants are sold in and we encourage our customers to return them if they don’t need them. These pots are cleaned and re-used where possible. We do not accept pots from plants purchased elsewhere, this is because there is an element of risk from disease and pests from other plant sellers and we don’t want to risk our own disease and pest free environment. Pots that maybe returned from other plant sellers are taken to the local tip for them to re-sell.
