Position:             Casual

Grade :                1B – Modern Award – Nursery Yard Hand

Hours:                 Up to 28 hours per week – Monday – Wednesday – Thursday – Friday

Essential Experience:

• Retail (minimum 2 years).
• Exemplary Customer Service Skills.
• Garden or Nursery Industry knowledge would be beneficial.
• Computer and Point of Sale system literate.

We a seeking a person who is able to work comfortably on their own as well as part of the team.

This person needs to be able communicate clearly and respectfully with customers, colleagues and suppliers.  The successful applicant would need to be pro-active and a highly motivated individual, demonstrating a clear commitment to both the business and the role.  The ability to use their initiative in the workplace and apply a common sense approach with regards to personal safety, the safety of others and to all aspects of role is paramount.

• Must be fit and able to deal with a highly physical workload.
• Must be able to drive and have a full driving licence.
• Must be absolutely trustworthy.
• Must demonstrate integrity and honesty at all times.
• Must be highly motivated.

Daily Tasks

• Serving Customers
  • Greet customers with a smile and a positive greeting.
  • Assist customers with their plant and product choices.
  • Provide customers with correct advice about suitable plants and products.
  • Using a POS System to process purchases.
  • Loading products into customers vehicles.

• Cleaning and tidying plant display beds
  • Remove weeds and leaves from the top of all plant pots
  • Remove all plants from the display bed, put them to one-side, neatly and safely
  • Rake all leaves/bark and weeds from the nursery display beds, ensuring the stones remain in place.
  • Replace all pots back into the display bed, neatly in straight lines.
  • Plant tag and price label needs to be facing forward.
• Weeding and removing leaves and bark from pathways.
• Dead-heading
  • Remove any flowers from plants that are dead or dying
  • Remove any leaves that are brown or dis-coloured
  • Ensure all plant tags and price labels are facing forward
• Tidy Potting Mix/Sugarcane Bales
  • Ensure potting mixes and Sugarcane bales are stacked to the front each morning.
• Watering
  • Review plant health daily and ensure plants receive enough water on a daily basis.
• Deliveries and Unloading
  • There are several deliveries each week including plants, pots, potting mixes, woodchip and general shop items.
